PREKINDERGARTEN

The Apollos is our pre-k class and is for children age 4 and up that will be attending kindergarten within one year. This classroom maintains a 15:1 child to staff ratio.

Both our preschool and pre-k programs share the primary goal or readying your child for kindergarten and beyond.

Our pre-k students are surrounded with an environment that builds self-esteem and learning while exposing them to basic concepts and skills needed for their future. In this classroom, the captivating themes make learning meaningful while providing children with a strong foundation for success. Our preschool curriculum satisfies inquisitive minds by exploring the world of science, social studies, math, language, art, and dramatic play. The children also participate in our vegetable garden and are encouraged to enjoy the fruits of their labor.

Our pre-kindergarten curriculum prepares each child for continued education with the Curriculum for Pre-K program. In this program children are actively involved in learning activities that build a strong foundation of kindergarten readiness skills. Our comprehensive curriculum builds phonemic awareness, promotes sight word identification and facilitates number concepts while integrating theme-based learning. Our well-rounded learning environment creates an atmosphere that supports the development of problem solving skills.

The main skills your child will cover during their pre-k year are listed below.

  • Social/Emotional Development
  • Language Development
  • Small and Large Muscle Development
  • Phonological Awareness: Rhyming, Clapping Syllables, & Alliteration

Janice Estep, B.A.

Ms. Janice was born in Athens, Alabama, but has lived in Oklahoma most of her life.  She has two sons, Brandon & Chris.  Both of her sons play semi-professional soccer and she loves to watch their games.  Her sons and two granddaughters are her heart.

Ms. Janice's hobbies include attending concerts and listening to all types of music; plays and concerts in the park, watching romantic comedies, shopping, dining out, and spending time with her family and friends.

She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University majoring in Sociology with a minor in Psychology.  She also has an Associate degree in Child Development.  Ms Janice says "I have been teaching Pre-Kindergarten for eight years.  I love working with children! "

Her favorite quotes are “There are no blueprints for children – each one is custom made.”  “If I could reach up and hold a star for every time you’ve made me smile, the entire evening sky would be in the palm of my hand.”

ASSISTANT TEACHER
Laura Scoggin
Laura Scoggin

Ms. Laura is a senior at Edmond North High School.  She is a member of the National Honor Society; therefore, education is “very important to me.”  Ms. Laura has been involved with taking care of children since she was six years old, when her sister was born.  “Taking care of my sister quickly progressed to becoming a child care provider for several families since the fifth grade,” she said.  She continued on this path until the summer of 2007 when she became a nanny for a couple of families, where this position entailed more duties and responsibilities.

Through these jobs, she has learned how to interact with children and gained valuable experiences.  “I want to take the next step and interact with children in a new environment.  I am looking forward to working with the great children at My Small Wonders,” she says!
